The Ankh is one of the most ancient and profound symbols known to humanity.
By a stroke of luck, I experienced the power of Ankh energy healing. WIthin minutes, the Ankh pulled a massive block off of my chest that caused me to be short of breath. (Read more about that here)
That’s when I knew: I have to learn to work with the Ankh! It can help you find your balance and feel more at peace.
Often called the Key of Life, the Ankh represents perfect balance — the harmony between the earthly and the spiritual realms, and the sacred union of masculine and feminine energies.
The Balance Between Masculine and Feminine Energies
The top loop of the Ankh is often seen as a representation of divine feminine energy — receptive, intuitive, and nurturing. The vertical stem, in contrast, embodies the divine masculine energy — focused, active, and grounding.
The horizontal arms of the Ankh bring these two energies together in balance, holding the divine union between them. This perfect equilibrium mirrors the natural harmony that exists in all aspects of life: light and dark, heaven and earth, intuition and reason.
The Two-Legged Ankh and Its Healing Power
There is also a version known as the two-legged Ankh, which has two stems instead of one. Each leg represents one of the energetic poles — masculine and feminine — and when the legs are intertwined, they symbolize divine union and sacred harmony.
Because of this, the two-legged Ankh is particularly connected to energy healing. It can be used to help rebalance energies within the self, clear energetic blockages, and strengthen the flow of life force throughout the body and spirit.
The Ankh and the Chakras
The shape of the Ankh also beautifully mirrors the human energy system. If you’re familiar with the seven chakras, the middle crossbar aligns with the heart chakra — the center that unites all other energies.
- The bottom stem corresponds to the three lower, earthly chakras:
Root, Sacral, and Solar Plexus. - The top loop represents the three higher, spiritual chakras:
Throat, Third Eye, and Crown. - And right in the middle, the heart acts as the bridge, harmonizing both the earthly and the divine.
In this way, the Ankh becomes a map of the human energy body — a tool to help us find balance and harmony within ourselves.
The Ankh as Horizon: Light and Dark in Union
You can also view the Ankh as a horizon — the meeting point between what is above and what lies below. The loop represents what is above the horizon, illuminated by the sun, while the stem represents what lies beneath, in the shadow or unseen realms.
Together, they remind us that light and dark are both divine, and that life itself is a continual dance of balance between the two.
In the Western world, we’re often conditioned to believe that the material, visible world is the only reality. But by working with the Ankh, we begin to connect more deeply with our intuitive, spiritual, and energetic sides — bringing balance to our being and expanding our awareness of what’s truly real.
The Key of Life
The Ankh has been revered since ancient times as the Key of Life, Symbol of Life, or Breath of Life. Its power and wisdom are timeless, predating even ancient Egypt — with roots that may reach back to Atlantis and beyond.
Personally, I’ve always felt a strong pull toward the two-legged Ankh, especially in the context of energy healing. Its balanced form feels alive — like a sacred tool designed to awaken harmony within and around us.
Working With the Ankh
If it speaks to you, I encourage you to start working with the Ankh — meditate with it, wear it, or simply sit with its energy. You may be surprised by the sense of peace, clarity, and balance it brings into your life.

And if you’ve had your own experiences with the Ankh, I’d love to hear about them. Feel free to share your story or any questions in the comments — I always love connecting with others on this path.
With love and light,
