Grounding yourself is vital for your wellbeing and to feel balanced and calm. Read here what it means to ground yourself, why it is important and 15 of the best ways to do it.
If you tend to be in your head a lot (this might apply even extra if you are an air sign like me!), then learning how to ground yourself will be such a relief. I always feel instantly better when I apply any of the below mentioned techniques to feel grounded.
Grounding Yourself Meaning
Grounding yourself means to consciously connect yourself to the earth. You do this by letting yourself and your body getting back to the present moment and focusing on your body being connected to the earth.
To feel healthy and balanced you need to be grounded. If you are not grounded enough, you can experience being stuck in thoughts, not feeling connected or aware of what is happening in your body, feeling stressed, anxious or depressed.
You can ground yourself by doing a physical acitivity or going out into nature, but you can also use visualization (f.e imagine your connection to the earth by standing up strong and imagining roots growing out of your feet).
What Is Earthing?
Earthing basically means discharging energy to the earth. This applies to electrical earthing as well as to grounding (earthing) yourself physically.
With electrical earthing a path is provided for excess (faulty) energy to be discharged to the earth to avoid you getting an electrical shock.
When you are earthing or grounding yourself physically, you are doing just that. You are connecting your body to the earth so excess (to you faulty) energy can be discharged and given back to the earth.
What Happens When Your Ground Yourself?
When you ground yourself your body gets back into its natural state of being instead of thinking (we are called human beings after all). Your nervous system starts to relax and you can go back into a state of presence, connectedness and calm.

Why Grounding Yourself Is So Important
Grounding yourself is so important (even vital) to our wellbeing because as humans we are strongly connected to the earth. It is where we come from and it is where we feel like ourselves. If we are not grounded, we can therefore never feel whole.
If the body is out of balance there is an energetic block that needs to be taken away. If the disbalance is in the root chakra (our lowest, most earthly chakra), it can be brought back into balance by doing grounding activities, as described in the list below.
Don’t underestimate the importance of the root chakra and your grounding. If the basis is not steady, you are building on a weak foundation and your body will not be able to fully heal itself.
If you feel stressed, anxious or depressed and you are not sure why, then try out some of the following ways to ground yourself and see what happens.
