Have you ever wondered: What does centering yourself mean? After some searching and some practise, I found the answer and experienced the benefits of it myself. I will share THE best centering exercise with you in this post, together with two other ways to center yourself quickly and easily.
Centering yourself means to bring yourself back to your natural state of being, which is a state of calmness or stillness where you are truly present in the current moment. Both your mind and your body are in a state of fully relaxed awareness. You are alert and calm at the same time.
Why You Should Learn To Center Yourself
You should learn to center yourself because it will improve your physical and mental health, your focus and the connection to your intuition.
When you are centered you are in a state of relaxed focus. Nothing is clouding your mind and your body feels fully relaxed. Stress you were experiencing is released from the body.
After practising to center yourself for a longer period of time, you will rewire your brain and will be able to stay in a more relaxed state of mind on a daily basis.
In a centered state, you are also more open to receive ideas from your subconscious. Your mind is at its sharpest: you are aware of your surroundings but are not emotionally responsive to it. By centering yourself you can tap into altered states of consciousness.
How To Center Yourself Mentally?
To center yourself mentally there are several things you can do, such as: meditation, breathing, walking. Be aware that it is a skill that you need to develop. Be patient with yourself. Don’t make judgements when the mind does not quiet down in the beginning, that is normal. It will improve over time with practise.
When you are already in a calm state, it will take less time to center yourself, than when you are starting from a state of stress or anxiety.
3 Ways To Center Yourself Quickly
Try these 3 ways to center yourself quickly and easily:
- Take some deep breaths – Sit or lay down comfortably. Breathe in through your nose to your lower belly and hold your breath for 5 seconds. Then exhale through your mouth while sounding and exhaling out. Take as many breaths as necessary. On every exhale feel how your body releases its tension.
- Go for a walk – While walking in a relaxed pace, focus on your breath and your body. Be very aware of your movements, your body and the feeling under your feet. Listening to some calm meditative music will help too.
- Do a centering exercise (See the video below) – To learn to center yourself quickly you can use the below centering exercise meditation. This mediation is based on the Silva ultramind method and it teaches you to quickly center yourself. After some practise, it can only take a few seconds or a few breaths to get into a centered state.
